I think Shaun Micallef’s books are our family’s favourite gift. You’ll see them piling up on coffee tables when you visit. My son Dan said Yeah, thanks Dad. I got another one of his books from someone else last Christmas.
We enjoy his TV programs and his particular brand of wit. I haven’t read this one, but what I like about it is its original title. If you can remember the title, I guarantee it won’t be hard to find in a search online or in a bookshop. (Remember those?)
I recently enjoyed Rob Parson's A Knock At the Door. Great book. I had to keep reading it. But if you look online for it, and you don’t remember the author’s name, it’s going to be a nuisance to find, because there are so many books with this title. It’s a perfect title for the book. That’s what it’s about. A man knocks on the door … and stays 46 years! What else would you call it? (Was it 46? Something like that.)
I sat beside Rob at a course in Penrith. He told me he was writing his story and had published it at Amazon. It’s a great story of how he and his brothers were put on a ship to Australia when they were little boys, and how eventually their mother caught up with them. But his book is called Reflections - like many other Amazon books.
I take my hat off to Shaun Micallef. There’s only one book called Slivers, Shards and Skerricks. What a clever title. Maybe I’ll borrow Philip’s copy sometime. Or, I wonder if someone in the family is going to give it to me for Christmas. It’s on the cards!
